For the last seven months, this blog has been a place for Gen Y writers to express their opinions, share their ideas, and speak for themselves. The idea has been to counter the labels – entitled, unfocused, lazy – pasted upon this generation by much of the media.
But what began as an experiment has started to gain some traction. TheNextGreatGeneration has dozens of writers, thousands of readers, and a fair amount of attention on Twitter and in other social media venues. So we thought it was time to take it up a notch.
To that end, we’re thrilled to announce that Alex Pearlman has joined the blog as Editor in Chief, at least for the summer and hopefully beyond. Alex has most recently been Editor in Chief of Suffolk University’s student newspaper, the Suffolk Journal. A life-long writer, she’s passionate about journalism and blogging and a big believer in what this blog is trying to do.
In addition, we have some other ideas in the works. While reluctant to make any promises we can’t keep, we will say that we’re planning on re-designing the blog, expanding the size of our community, creating all kinds of new ways for Gen Y to be involved (surveys, polls, causes, and reactions to brands and products, including the opportunity to help us define what TNGG should be long term.)
I hope you’ll take a look at my interview with Alex and keep your eyes opened for what’s to come. In the meantime, we welcome any and all ideas, comments or criticisms, whether they’re from our Gen Y contributors or our older readers and followers.
Stay great.
