I’ve been thinking a lot about our generation’s fascination with gender roles and androgyny. It’s becoming so common now to see same-sex relationships and culture in every aspect of day-to-day life, that some are even proclaiming that it is the end of men. Although others are strongly refuting such claims, the rise of metrosexuality certainly isn’t helping their case. And brands like Old Spice and Dodge have recently built entire campaigns on presenting the definition of manliness.
And then there are those, like me, who couldn’t care less either way. No, not in the stereotypical Millennials-are-all-apathetic kind of way. I just don’t think gender roles are all that important, what with oil spills happenings and all.
But, that doesn’t mean other people don’t find it interesting! So for all the confused men out there, and the ladies who want to dress (like) them, here are my three tips on how to dress like a man.
1. Know all the rules…so you can break’em.
Everyone knows rules were meant to be broken, and dumb ones like “don’t wear white after Labor day” and “No black and brown” are especially meant to be broken. – but in a classy way. Wear black and brown, but do it with subtlety, like black and brown shoes or a brown belt and watch. White looks great in the fall and winter, just tone it down so it is not the focus of your outfit.
2. Wear a jacket.
Guys don’t have very many layers to our going out wear, so a jacket really steps things up as far as drawing the right kind of attention to yourself. I like to wear a jacket in the summer because you can always take it off, it shields against rain and if I’m trying to be a gentleman, it’s there to lend to a nice young lady (like I’d ever do that). And ladies, you aren’t exempt from classing it up; jackets look great on girls too. I should say though, make sure it fits properly.
3. Wear a collared shirt.
For Millennial guys, there are tons of options for a nice collared shirt. One of my more stylish tweeps, @patrickbjohnson, swears by the shirts from Zara and from what I’ve seen, they fit well and are offered at a really nice price. Also for the androgynously inclined, they can work as a cool skirt. But try it anyway. They also look great as a dress, when worn with a belt.
Stick to these tips, Gen Y Guys, and your stylish transition into manhood is sure to impress your friends and the ladies. Yes, even those ladies.

Coming next week: How To Dress Like A Millennial Woman!
Great as a dress link goes to Macy's! Not to a woman wearing a Zara with a belt on it. I hate Macy's. Terrible service.
Hey! As a former Macy's employee I take offense to that sir! lol Nah but they do seem distracted sometimes, that's why I buy online. People suck.
