Google to Acquire Facebook; Zuckerberg to Head New Social Arm

It was an unlikely threesome in a familiar bar in Redwood City. Believe it or not – Facebook mogul, Mark Zuckerberg; Google CEO, Eric Schmidt; And Google’s CEO-to-be, Larry Page.

The subject: Acquisition.

It’s been rumored all over tech blogs this morning that conversations between Google and Facebook are underway regarding a possible acquisition worth just over $100 Billion. If you recall, in early January, Goldman Sachs offered their clients a chance to invest in Facebook, which has a valuation at approximately $50 Billion.

The most interesting piece of this deal, however, is Zuckerberg’s new role at Google.

Google’s long-rumored social arm is on its way to being official, with Zuckerberg at the helm. His title of Managing Director, Global Chief of Social Operations, puts him at the head of what Google is calling “GooglEmerge” – a business line that will oversee all social, mobile and location-based operations.

None of our sources were able to obtain comments from Schmidt, Page or Zuckerberg. And details of the deal are still nebulous.  Of course, everything will need to be evaluated and approved by the FCC and FTC before any official deal is made.

One thing’s for sure – you should get ready to see some new, unbelievable Facebook features. I suggest creating your “Bring Back the Old Facebook” groups now.
