There’s a distinction between “home” friends and “college” friends, and as Gen Y comes of age, we are caught in limbo between home and college, here and there, then and now. But why do we distinguish between the two? Is one gold and the other silver, like the Friendship Song told us?
“Brand ambushing” is seen as a way to cut through the clutter of advertising and shock consumers. The practice has been used by other brands like Domino’s and Wheat Thins. It works because it’s unusual, it creates a scene, and it really is surprising.
Libertarians assume that both power and money corrupt, so in order to prevent corruption at the highest levels, we must limit both as much as possible. But, given the impressions of Libertarians in the media, it’s no wonder that many people are left confused as to what we actually stand for.
Generation Y doesn’t march on the streets. Instead they take to Facebook and Twitter to protest. Could it be, though, that this is just as effective?
Location-based social networking sites, such as Foursquare, Gowalla, and others, may be just the thing marketers need to improve advertising based on behavioral targeting. Even the verb “to check in” is changing in connotation, as these social applications grow in popularity.
Our parents told us we could do whatever we wanted. But the financial collapse coincided with the emergence of the most educated applicant pool in history and we were forced to find any job we could. With a 14 percent unemployment rate and a generally dismal outlook, we realized our dreams might be out of reach. But we still don’t take those cubicle jobs that people would give limbs for. Because we ask, why shouldn’t work be fun?
Online dating sites like OkCupid and Plenty of Fish that cater to Millennials have soared in popularity in the past few years, and the trend shows no signs of abating. Even more traditional sites like Match and EHarmony have harnessed this demographic. It’s pretty simple. Gen Y loves online dating.
While research shows that Millennials are more comfortable with interracial relationships than any other generation, this author’s experience says otherwise.
We all know that Millennials like to share their voices. We are confident with our words, passionate in the way we use them, and better yet, we’re not all talk; we take action, too. We’re committed to channeling our collective voice in way that constructively changes our own future for the better. And that’s exactly what we were doing at My Summit 2010.
We learn about American history exactly twice in our lives: in eighth grade Social Studies class and in eleventh grade American History class. How much of what we learn in school about American history really sticks?
